Automotive Diagnostician in Poland.

Licensed automotive diagnostician has an authority to permit motorized vehicles to merge with traffic. There are about 20 milions cars in Poland. It has to be pointed that every car in Poland (private or company) has to be regularly tested for roadworthiness to check if it is not threatening to the traffic safety. Tests for the roadworthiness are usually taken once a year in the so-called Motor Vehicle Diagnostic Stations. There are over 4600 stations in Poland and they can be divided into large – regional and small – basic.

The owners of those stations belong to their own organisation called The Polish Chamber of Motor Vehicle Diagnostic Stations, that supports them to run their business.

The workers of Motor Vehicle Diagnostic Stations, who test the cars, are the previously mentioned licensed automotive diagnosticians. The number of them varies around 12,000 but it is still not enough.

You can see many adverts, for the position of the licensed automotive diagnosticians, in the professional magazines. Some owners of Motor Vehicle Diagnostic Stations even offer tied accommodation or the support to learn. Some employees refund the cost of the professional training and the national examination.

The salaries of the licensed automotive diagnostician are also very interesting and depend on the region, the kind of the Motor Vehicle Diagnostic Station – basic or regional or the kind of employment contract ( e.g. with the commission on the amount of tested vehicles and thus on the income).

It is essential for the employed diagnosticians to have a legal employment contract. It is impossible to work without it or with the fee-for-task agreement.

You have to pass the national examination to become the licensed automotive diagnostician. You also need to have a higher education or secondary education connected with the motorized vehicles, or some work experience in the mechanic job and finished professional training.

The national examination includes traffic code and some technical knowledge and the knowledge of the motorized vehicles structure.

It is Polish oddity that even women work as diagnosticians.

The licensed automotive diagnosticians have their own organisation called

Polish Countrywide Association for the Licensed Automotive Diagnosticians that initiates reforms in law that can be beneficial for them.

Every year there are some national competitions for the best diagnosticians and for the best Motor Vehicle Diagnostic Station. The competition, in the funny form, involves finding the biggest number of technical problems in the vehicle during a certain period of time.

The organisers of those competitions seek for the contacts with Germany, Czech Republic, Ukraine and other neighbouring countries. They want to invite them to take part in the competition.

The similar competition is organised for young people, who study in the automotive schools.

The Association of Engineers and Transportation Technicians in Legnica is the organiser of the competition.

The government is working on the changes in the Traffic Code. Transportation Department wants to imply some modifications, but the owners of the Motor Vehicle Diagnostic Stations and their Association, and the Association of the Licensed Automotive Diagnosticians do not agree with the department’s idea.

The main reasons of the protests are technical issues in the government’s scheme, which come from the fact that the officials based their idea on the incorrect translation of the European Union Directive.
